A
Short History of Floyd's Diner

Mike
and Judi Kearney moved to High Springs after Mike retired
from his microelectronics business. An "A"
type personality, Mike was not content to sit still and decided
to open a restaurant. In the tradition of his family
in Northern Ireland, he had previously opened an Irish Pub.
The Old Brogue, located in Virginia, has continued in his
family for twenty
years. However, Mike felt a more traditional-type venture
was in order for High Springs. He solicited the commitment
of Tara McDermott, one of his pub managers, as a partner and
General Manager. Tara persuaded a colleague from Boston,
Carol Doherty, to join the venture as a partner and Executive
Chef. The start up team was in place.
After
nine months of frenetic activity, Floyd's Diner was born.
Delivered from the Ormond Beach manufacturing facility on
five tractor trailers the diner was set in place atop a prepared
basement foundation. Floyd's was scheduled to open on
September 25th, 2001 but first the staff had to be trained.
The partners decided to do this through a series of parties
where local friends, business people, and relatives were treated
to a full menu prepared and
served by the trainees. Floyd's is proud to say that
they are now serving approximately 15,000 individually prepared
meals each month.
Floyd's
serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week.
They have a full liquor license and offer daily food and beverage
specials. Local response has been overwhelmingly positive
and our reputation for fine food, cheerful service, and reasonable
prices continues to spread. Check our menu pages for
hours and extensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus.
The jukebox is free and offers selections from the 50's through
the 90's. We also offer seating in our outdoor patio
during good weather.
